ML74289 Master Lock set your own combo

Inspired
by a complete lack of success searching for a solution to my problem
with a new master lock bike lock, I thought I'd post my results into
the blogosphere to help out anybody else who googles problems with this
lock.

You follow the instructions and still can't program a new combo other than the default 0000 ? The trick is to take a ballpoint pen to the special program button, not just
push it with your finger. You'll hear a "click" to know it stuck, then
select your new 4-digit code and proceed per the instructions.

Teaching Programming

I've introduced my daughter to Logo, the programming language for controlling a "turtle" and drawing objects, like geometric shapes. An example might help:

to draw a square

forward 100 right 90 forward 100 right 90 forward 100 right 90 forward 100 right 90

or, more simply,

repeat 4 [forward 100 right 90]

It's cool, it's fun, and immediate feedback. I showed her how to abbreviate so she doesn't need to type the whole words

And she was off to the races. In her first session, she wrote her name in block letters. What a girl!
