While he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect towards others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself.

I found this on linkedin.I think Schofield got it right.

Within the military, rank and position command respect, the individual behind the rank or in the position must earn it. I must respect my seniors, based on military regulation and traditions, but I do not have to respect the individual wearing said rank. One of my favorite military quotes is from Major General John M. Schofield to the Cadets of the Military Academy, August 11, 1879.
"The discipline which makes the soldiers of a free country reliable in battle is not to be gained by harsh or tyrannical treatment. On the contrary, such treatment is far more likely to destroy than to make an Army. It is possible to impart instruction and give commands in such a manner and such a tone of voice as to inspire in the Soldier no feeling, but an intense desire to obey, while the opposite manner and tone of voice cannot fail to excite strong resentment and a desire to disobey. The one mode or the other of dealing with subordinates springs from a corresponding spirit in the breast of the commander. He who feels the respect which is due to others cannot fail to inspire in them respect for himself. While he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect towards others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself."

Watch a pragmatist describe his evolution

David Anderson has a video on TOC.TV talking about his pragmatic approach to knowledge workers. I've always found him worth listening to going back to his days as a FDD evangelist.

People Closest to the Knowledge Work

A blog post on healthy project teams reminded me that it's the people closest to the work, actually doing the work that are the most important part of the team. If you choose to focus on process, and enforcing compliance, you have chosen to micro-manage, telling people how to do their work. You have also chosen to indirectly tell them that they have no say in how they do their work. This does not create a successful environment for knowledge workers who must be creative, inventive, and innovative in their work product.

more than 60% of the population have cheated on their partners at least once

I find this hard to believe but yet compelling. I have not, for the record, cheated.
Truth about lying and laughter
Are you a good liar? Most people think that they are, but in reality there are big differences in how well we can pull the wool over the eyes of others. There is a very simple test that can help determine your ability to lie. Using the first finger of your dominant hand, draw a capital letter Q on your forehead.

$700 Copenhagen Wheel gives bicyclists a battery boost

The bike wheel from startup Superpedestrian helps accelerate a cyclist going uphill, charging its battery with energy stored while braking and descending.

The Copenhagen Wheel is shown here on a bike with a single rear gear, but it's also available for multi-speed bikes that change gears with a rear derailleur.

The technology also includes a mobile app that lets people adjust settings and monitor fitness statistics such as elevation gained and calories burned. The wheel also can automatically lock itself when its owner leaves and unlock when its owner returns, the company said.
Adding a 12-pound weight may sound like a lot of extra burden for a cyclist. But its battery is enough for a 20mph speed and 30-mile range, the company said.
In October, Superpedestrian announced it had raised $2.1 million in first-round funding from Spark Capital and David Karp, the founder of Tumblr.
