Temporary Accounting Analyst, Chicago

Title: Temporary Accounting Analyst (872-20)
Location: Chicago
Dates: Start ASAP
Duration: Through first week of August
Compensation: Depends on experience

Summary/Responsibilities:
Provide financial analysis of firm's financial performance as measured against plan and market benchmarks
Prepare annual budget and investment income plan
Prepare analyses relating to Assets Under Management
Utilize expertise to provide counselling on accounting issues
Lead the process to develop the annual plan of consolidated net investment income
Determine best approach to project investment income for each asset type
Solicit input from senior management on assumptions/projections
Analyze actual and/or projected IFRS consolidated investment income results against plan on monthly and quarterly basis
Quantify variance to plan using actual results into measurable categories including interest yields, net production, general turnover, rate/volume analysis, and expenses
Perform in-depth analysis, research/resolve variances and inconsistencies and review output for reasonability to determine if further analysis is necessary
Provide summary of results to senior management on financial performance and cost center managers on expenses.  Research/resolve variances and inconsistencies by conducting an investigation of accounts, applying normal accounting techniques and standard practices
Prepare quarterly key performance indicator analysis consisting of contribution margins for various investment types, expenses to assets, investment income to assets, and other measures
Prepare additional monthly and quarterly management analysis reports and supporting schedules as necessary. Ensure all data and information is complete, accurate and prepared in a timely manner. Actively participate in the analysis of emerging results
Assist in the completion of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules within established procedures and guidelines
Assist with special projects
Assist in determining appropriate accounting treatment for new investment vehicles and technical, procedural and application expertise on special requests
Research IFRS and Statutory accounting and coordinating with outside auditors on appropriate treatment or assisting with regulatory inquiries, alternative investments, derivative strategies or “what if” financial analysis

Requirements:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in asset management industry or public accounting (with investment management exposure) required
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or an equivalent combination of education and experience
CPA Preferred / MBA Preferred
Proficiency in Excel and Access required
Experience using Accounting Software (i.e. Microsoft Dynamics AX (DAX), Great Plains, Quickbooks, SAP, etc.)
Previous experience using TM1 strongly preferred
Experience in various investment instruments required
Experience in IFRS and Statutory accounting required
Knowledge of internal control processes and procedures required
