Payroll Accountant

Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Summary/Responsibilities:
Process and reconcile payroll in a complex multi-state, multi-national environment
Provide subject matter expertise in the area of payroll deductions related to garnishments and payroll taxes, including the proper withholding and remittance of federal, state and local taxes and the timely distribution of annual wage and tax statements
Review and analyze current payroll, benefits and taxes to ensure accuracy and compliance
Prepare and distribute relevant management reports including biweekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports, as well as, ad-hoc reports as needed
Manages relationships with external tax consultants and relocation vendor for quarterly and annual wage reporting, including state wage and withholding apportionments for employee business travel, relocation, and expatriate tax equalizations
Partners with Human Resources, Compensation and Accounting departments to ensure coordination of information between Payroll and those departments
Interfaces with all levels of the organization to answer questions, resolve issues and provide information
Assist employees with compensation and payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner
Prepare payroll journal entries; reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts; assist with compensation accrual journal entries and reconciliation
Process 401k reporting, remittance and reconciliations and assist with annual benefit plan audit
Research, gather and prepare material for workers compensation and other audits as required
Prepare quarterly and annual payroll expense and headcount returns
Responsible for treasury activities related to payroll and compensation bank accounts
Develop and implement process improvements to improve efficiencies and/or service levels
Assist with accounts payable processing
Special projects as assigned

Requirements:
At least 5-7 years of progressive hands on payroll experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or comparable year’s payroll experience
Must have in-depth knowledge of multi-state payrolls; experience with international payrolls a plus
Strong systems knowledge; experience with ADP Payroll systems preferred
1-3 years of corporate accounting, or equivalent, experience
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Familiarity with a complex multi-state, multi-national environment
Excellent interpersonal skills, high energy level, ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to work independently, multi-task & work under strict, often conflicting, deadlines
Strong analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
Great attention to detail with high degree of accuracy
Excellent English, grammar, written and oral communication skills
